The bacteria in Biokick 1 are the
same as those found naturally in ponds. The bacteria
have been separated, filtered and dried in a special
way. Contact with the water revives them. It is
advisable to sprinkle the Biokick into flowing water
or onto a filter foam. The OASE BioClear filter
is equiped with the so-called BioClear-Plus-Zone.
This zone is the most favourable area to add Biokick
because a steady flow of water is guaranteed. 1
ounce of Biokick is sufficient provide 1300 gallons
of pond water with the aproprate amount of filter
bacteria.
Pondlith
A natural filter product based on Zeolite
Zeolite is a well-known filter material and has
been highly esteemed by Koi-breeders for a long
time because its surface area 1000x larger than
sand or gravel. The large surface of the filter
material is crucial for the settlement of the
right micro-organisms. This helps to achieve naturally
clear water.
Pondlith by OASE is a specially processed Zeolite
with a grain that was exlusively developed for
use as filter material for garden ponds.
Pondlith can do a lot for a pond:
In open agricultural systems - such as an open
field the toxin ammonium is broken down by bacteria.
This way poisonous concentrations are avoided.
In closed systems - such as the garden pond -
where no exchange of substances is possible, the
concentration of ammonia can rise so high that
it becomes poisonous for the occupants of the
pond.
The fish, decomposition of uneaten fish food
and fish excrement produce so much ammonia that
it cannot be broken down by the bacteria in a
normal garden pond. Pondlith works in a natural
way to prevent the poisoning of water by reducing
the concentration of toxic substances through
the bacteria living on its surface.
Pondlith also works as an ion exchanger in the
garden pond. The mineral Zeolite is a natural
ion exchanger. For the quality of the pond water
that means that certain organic compounds - i.e.
nutrients - are being dissolved which stops the
growth of green algae. This prevents the clouding
of the water.
2.2 lbs. of Pondlith per cubic yard of water
works in a pond without fish. In a pond with fish
twice as much should be used and in a pond with
Koi-fish 8.8 lbs. per cubic yard are necessary.
